Happy Ugadi 2020 Quotes, Wishes Messages, SMS, and Whatsapp/Facebook Status Images: Ugadi is a festival which is celebrated as the 1st day of the year by the peoples of southern part of India i.e. Karnataka, TamilNadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states etc. It is a New Year which starts from Ugadi in the Hindu calendar and it’s observed on the 1st day of Chaitra month which is the first month in the Indian calendar. On this day of a New Year, people observe various rituals after the break of dawn. It falls on different day in every year because the Telugu calendar is a lunisolar calendar. Ugadi is also called as Yugadi in some states of India. Ugadi is derived from Sanskrit word Yuga (age) and Adi (beginning) which means “the beginning of new age”.

Ugadi Terms in Different Languages:

Different festivals are celebrated throughout India; they are called by different names in each part. This New Year celebration in Karnataka is called as Ugadi and terms as Yugadi (ಯುಗಾದಿ)(ugadi pronouns as Yugadi), in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is called as “Ugadi” (ఉగాది) and the people in Maharashtra term the same festival, observed on the same day as “Gudi Padwa”. In Bengal, this festival is called as 'Poila Boisakh'. In some parts of India probably it is known as “Vikram Samvat” or “Bhartiya Nav Varsh”.

Ugadi Puja Worshipping God:

In Karnataka, the Ugadi festival Puja is celebrated by worshipping several gods and goddesses. The Kannada people mainly worship Lord Ganesha (vinayaka), Mata Parvati, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Uma-Maheshwara pujan is also performed in a few states of India. Apart from these, Hiranyagarbha Puja, Arundhati-Vasishta Puja, etc., are also performed to attain the blessings of Almighty.

Why Ugadi is celebrated?

Ugadi is a New Year celebrated in south part of India with different names. Some states call it as Ugadi or Yugadi (Yuga means age and adi means beginning ` the beginning of new age `). This festival is celebrated in every year on the first day of Chaitra month or in the arrival of the spring season. As leaves sprout the new ones and leaving the older ones, the people start with a new beginning and leaving the past. Hindu belief, that Lord Brahma has created the earth on this special day. On Ugadi:

On this occasion, in the early morning people do oil bath and decorating the home or shop with the mango leaves, and make rangoli at the door step. And preparing the different dishes and juice of different tastes (mainly ugadi pachadi) offered to god and worshiped.
