Sri Rama Navami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the appearance day or Birthday of Lord Ramachandra on the holy land of Ayodhya in Treta Yuga. He is mainly important to the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism, as the seventh avatar of god Vishnu. The festival celebrates the descent of Vishnu as the incarnation of Sri Rama, who was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya.It is appeared in the month of Chaitra (between March/April) on the ninth day of the growing moon. On this particular day is celebrated as Sri Rama Navami in every year. Now this year we celebrate the festival on Thursday, April 2nd 2020.
Sri Ramachandra was born to King Dasharatha and Kaushalya of Ayodhya. Dasharatha has three wives Kaushalya, Kaike, and Sumitra, but has no children. On the advice of Maharishi Vashishtha,the king performed a Putra Kameshti Yajna. As a result, three wives conceive sons. Kaushalya gave birth to Rama and Kaike Bharata. Sumitra gave birth to twins: Lakshmana and Shatrughanna.
